If you've purchased a used copy of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and been thwarted by Capcom's bizarre save-locking procedures, hope is not lost. In fact, we've got two great methods to remove the save data -- if it really bothers you that much.

1. Toss the game into a campfire.

Pros: The save data is gone. Like, way, way gone.
Cons: Liquified cartridges are notoriously hard to insert back into systems.

2. Purchase the NDS Adaptor Plus, a doodad that can be used to back up save data to PC, and to eradicate save games.

Pros: The game can still be played.
Cons: Campfires are free, and the NDS Adapter Plus will cost you some money.

We'll let you ruminate on this one for a bit.

Tomita Technologies has filed a patent suit against Nintendo, alleging that the 3DS's stereoscopic display infringes upon Tomita's patent for "technology relating to displaying stereoscopic images on-screen for viewing with the naked eye, i.e., without utilizing glasses or other devices.," filed in 2003 and granted in 2008.

Nintendo is no stranger to these patent suits, with previous complaints claiming Nintendo infringed upon others' patents with Wii Fit, the GameCube and Classic Controllers, controller ports, and motion controls (Nintendo settled in that case).

We don't claim to be legal experts, but something seems off about this particular case from the outset: the screens are made by Sharp, not Nintendo.

People who dedicate a significant portion of their lives to the honorable art of capturing and training Pokemon deserve some recognition and, this summer, they're getting it. The 2011 Pokemon Black and Pokemon White Video Game Championship just completed its Regional Tournaments, and the kingdom's most powerful trainers have revealed some strategies regarding their noble creatures, as compiled by IGN.

Hydreigon, a Dark/Dragon Pokemon with three pairs of wings and a vicious cry, was the clear champion at Regionals, helping compose 53 percent of winning teams. Dark and Grass Pokemon made up 15 percent each of the most-used primary types, while Steel took a low 1 percent. Trainers used Protect for 14 percent of their moves, a clear majority when compared to the next-highest move, Rock Slide, at only 5.5 percent. National Championships run July 8-10 in Indianapolis, Indiana, because that's where heroes are made.

Look, we've all seen Pokéholics in the throes of deprivation. Well, perhaps us more than you ... consider who we work with. But here's the thing: There's finally, finally a way for you to get your fix without having to drag along your DS.

A new, official app for both Android and iOS will be available for download sometime this summer -- free of charge. It's the product of a licensing agreement between Nintendo and Game Freak in Japan.

Pokemon Say Tap? BW is a rhythm-based card game where you tap the screen in rhythm as music is being played and Pokemon cards are being displayed. Currently, there is no word of any versions for outside of Japan but, let's be real, how hard can it be to learn Japanese? If you start now, we bet you'll be fluent by the time this app launches!

As boys turn to men, we know it's hard to say goodbye to yesterday, but time marches on and Electronic Arts has server power bills it's no longer keen on paying. EA has decided to shut down online functionality for several titles, including Army of Two, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, as of August 11.

EA's explanation is that games being shut down represent "fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles," and that its server teams would rather "focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games." Ubisoft has announced its totally non-comic-related (but perhaps comical) contributions to the July 21-24 Comic-Con event, including opportunities to play its new games. Booth 4245 in the Exhibit Hall will host playable demos of Rabbids: Alive & Kicking, Just Dance 3, and Rayman Origins. On July 23, Ubisoft will hold an "Assassin's Creed: The Creation of a Universe" panel, featuring a preview of the Assassin's Creed Embers animated short.

Outside of the Comic-Con venue itself, Ubisoft and "The Nerd Machine" are setting up a "Nerd HQ" in downtown San Francisco, where players will find demos of Rayman Origins. Yes, "Nerd HQ" is somehow not inside Comic-Con.

Time is fluid, as we're reminded again by the announcement of Bloodrayne: Betrayal's late August launch. Originally expected for "early August," the game now has August 30 and 31 launch dates for PSN and XBLA, respectively.

Developer WayForward has reimagined BloodRayne for the better, as we and the company recently detailed on The Joystiq Show. From what we've seen so far, this is a BloodRayne that doesn't suck.
